List of "MARGA" Batak.

Lake Toba

Lake Toba is the spectacular sights - a remarkable volcanic crater set in the middle of northern Sumatra, 176 km from Medan.
The lake is huge (the largest in South-East Asia), occupying the caldera of a giant volcano that collapsed on itself after a massive eruption some 100,000 years ago. In comparison, Krakatau's 1883 effort was little more than a belch.
The lake is surrounded by steep mountains, ridges and sandy, pine-sheltered beaches.

SAMOSIR

The island of Samosir is right in the middle of the lake, is thought to have been created by subsequent upheavals between 30,000 and 100,000 years ago, Covering an area of 329 square miles.
The island is the original home of the fiercest but kind hearted Toba Bataks. It can be reached in half an hour by boat from Parapat.
The villages of Tomok, Tuktuk Siadong, Siallagan, Ambarita, Simanindo,
Pangururan, Simbolon, Nainggolan are recommended for traditional Batak Toba houses, and local dances (Tortor Batak).
This island has many hotels, bungalows, and rest houses.

PARAPAT

The town of Parapat is the main tourist resort and lies on the very shore of Lake Toba. In Parapat live Batak Toba and Batak Simalungun tribes, and are happy and easy going people. They are known for their lively and sentimental love songs.
Recreational sports in Parapat are among others Swimming, Water Skiing, Motor boating, Canoeing, Fishing. Golf is at Sally golf course (19 holes), about 5 km from Parapat. Parapat is 176 km from Medan and can be reached in 3 hours by bus.
The climate in Parapat is cool and dry, making Parapat and ideal place to relax. Many hotels, bungalows, villas, rest houses welcome visitors. Small shops sell souvenirs such as Ulos (local woven cloths) and specipic fruits locally grown.
